With the creation of Teece Family Vineyards, David Teece with his wife Leigh and their family returns to the land of his birth, but with the focus firmly on the global community in which he has made his mark over the last three decades.
With the able support of his wife, Leigh, David Teece has risen to the top tier of global business as an academic and entrepreneur. Management giant Accenture lists him as one of the world’s top 50 business intellectuals.
David Teece is the Tusher professor of global business at the University of California at Berkeley. Among his many other academic and commercial activities, he is founder and vice-chairman of Law and Economics Consulting Group (LECG), a business that provides expert advice and testimony to companies and countries in need of independent economic analysis and review. He also acts as economic advisor to companies and governments.
In New Zealand, David Teece is mainly known as a scholar and economic consultant, co-owner of the global rugby brand CCC, co-founder and builder of LECG LLC and co-founder of the Kiwi Expat Association, KEA.
David became intrigued with economic policy from a young age. He obtained first class honours in the subject at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, before heading to the US to complete his PhD at the University of Pennsylvania.
The inspiration for a family vineyard came from Leigh's experience with the high quality of living in New Zealand and her desire to participate more substantially in the food and wine industry. A native Californian, Leigh holds a degree in international relations from the University of Southern California and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Michigan. She worked in international banking and venture capital early in her career, before becoming fully engaged in the raising of the couple’s four children and more recently branching into philanthropic and other interests.
The Teeces have not settled for a small vineyard in a proven region. Instead, they have carefully pioneered a new venture in a previously undiscovered wine region – Cheviot Hills in North Canterbury.
"Working with local experts to identify and develop a new wine region, we believe we have produced exceptional wines to grace tables the world over," says Leigh.
