Mt Beautiful lies south of the Waiau River mouth, between our vineyard and the coast. Along with Mt Eleanor, Mt Caversham and other peaks in the coastal range, Mt Beautiful provides a barrier that protects our vines from coastal winds.
Compared to New Zealand’s famous alpine peaks, the round-backed bulk of Mt Beautiful is rather unprepossessing. Unless some ironic Kiwi humour was at work, it would seem the name of this local landmark was inspired not by its own appearance, but by the stunning coastal vistas from its summit!
